Homeschool two curious boys, ages 7 and 10, in the tropical jungle of Costa Rica.
MID-FEBRUARY – MID-DECEMBER 2027 (FLEXIBLE START) • OJOCHAL, COSTA RICA • PRIVATE GUEST HOUSE
ACCOMMODATION INCLUDED
Looking for a sabbatical, a career break, or a year of real adventure?
We are seeking an enthusiastic, adaptable, licensed American or Canadian teacher to spend 10 months homeschooling our two
boys on Costa Rica’s southern Pacific coast. This is a sabbatical-style opportunity for a teacher who loves nature, enjoys adventure,
and would welcome a more personal, flexible alternative to the traditional classroom.
Ojochal is a small community surrounded by extraordinarily biodiverse tropical jungle, with wildlife, rivers, waterfalls, and beaches
close by. The setting creates exceptional opportunities for hands-on science, outdoor exploration, cultural learning, and meaningful
real-world projects.
You will plan and deliver a structured, engaging homeschool program suited to both children. We would like their education to follow
the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme or an equivalent US state or Canadian provincial standard. You will:
• Teach core subjects, including English, math, science, and social studies
• Plan lessons and monitor each child’s progress
• Adapt instruction for two different ages and learning levels
• Incorporate nature, wildlife, and local culture into the learning program
• Organize cross-disciplinary, hands-on projects
• Encourage curiosity, independence, and a genuine enjoyment of learning
• Provide regular progress updates to the parents
• Teach Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The teacher we are seeking
• A current or recent US state teaching license or Canadian provincial teaching certificate in elementary or middle school
education
• Current or recent classroom teaching experience
• Confidence teaching across grades 3–7
• A current criminal background check: a state background check (US), or a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector
Check (Canada)
• Strong professional references
• A warm, energetic, patient, and organized approach
• An interest in creative, project-based, and outdoor learning
• Comfort living in a tropical environment
• Independence, flexibility, and enthusiasm for the challenges of living abroad
• Bilingual in English and Spanish (essential)
What is included
• Salary of US$17,000–20,000, plus:
– Private guest house accommodation in Ojochal, with access to a pool, waterfall, and river on the property
– Shared use of a family car for personal use
– Round-trip flights from your home country
• A 10-month school year from mid-February to mid-December 2027, with a 4–5 week break in July. We are flexible on the start
date for the right candidate.
• Evenings and weekends free to explore and enjoy the area
• The chance to live in one of Costa Rica’s most beautiful and biodiverse regions
• A unique experience combining meaningful teaching, travel, and adventure

Please mention that you found the job on Teast for the school's reference.
📌 Please review the requirements to teach English in Costa Rica before you start applying for teaching positions. If the job post specifies "NES" or "Native English Speaker", it typically means applicants are required to be from one of the following countries: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, or South Africa. However, in some cases, this may indicate a preference rather than a strict requirement.
⏳ Due to the high number of applications the schools receive they may not be able to respond to every application. If you don't hear back from them within a week or so, it's best to move on to the next job.
⚠️ When applying for jobs, you should NEVER have to pay to apply. You should also NEVER have to pay to buy anything which they then pay you back for later. NEVER PAY FOR ANYTHING! Also always verify you're actually talking to the company in the job post and not an imposter. Scams in TEFL are rampant, be careful!
