About the Role:
Grand International School is a well-established international school located in Qingdao, China, offering a bilingual and international education to students from primary through secondary levels. The school is committed to academic excellence, student-centered learning, and the development of critical thinking skills. We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and committed Science Teacher to join our international department. The successful candidate will teach a range of Science subjects, including Biology, Chemistry, and General Science, to students in Grades 7 to 12. Beyond the classroom, the teacher will support the effective running and maintenance of the school’s science laboratories, ensuring students regularly engage in practical, hands-on, and inquiry-based learning experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, well-structured, and differentiated Science lessons for students in Grades 7–12, aligned with the school curriculum and academic standards.
Teach across relevant Science disciplines, which may include General Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental Science, depending on grade level and timetable requirements.
Design and implement hands-on laboratory experiments, practical investigations, and inquiry-based learning activities that promote scientific thinking, experimentation, and problem-solving skills.
Ensure all laboratory safety procedures are strictly followed and maintain a safe, organized, and well-managed laboratory and classroom environment.
Lead and support the planning, preparation, and execution of the school’s Science Fair, guiding students through research design, experimentation, data analysis, and presentation of findings.
Collaborate closely with local (Chinese) teaching staff and international colleagues to co-plan lessons, align curriculum goals, share best practices, and support bilingual or cross-curricular learning initiatives.
Contribute to cross-curricular projects by working with teachers from other departments (e.g., Mathematics, English, Technology, or PBL programs) to integrate scientific concepts into wider learning experiences.
Develop and administer a variety of formative and summative assessments, including quizzes, tests, lab reports, projects, and examinations, and provide timely, constructive feedback to students.
Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners, including second-language learners, students with varying academic abilities, and those requiring additional support or academic challenge.
Integrate technology, data collection tools, simulations, and real-world scientific applications into lessons to enhance student engagement and understanding.
Track, monitor, and analyze student progress across all assigned classes using the school’s built-in Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring accurate record-keeping, timely assessment uploads, and consistent reporting.
Use LMS data to inform instruction, identify learning gaps, and support student intervention, extension, and academic growth.
Communicate student progress effectively with students, parents, and school leadership through reports, conferences, and LMS update.
Support a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom atmosphere.
Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues..
Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages respect, curiosity, and scientific exploration.
Participate in school-wide activities, extracurricular events, and professional development sessions.
Collaborate with colleagues, staff, and administration to ensure a cohesive educational experience for students.
Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians about student progress and any concerns.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant science field (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, etc.).
Experience teaching science (Biology, Chemistry, General Science) to grades 7-12, with a strong understanding of curriculum development and assessment strategies.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to adapt teaching methods to cater to different learning styles and academic levels.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain a safe, well-organized laboratory environment.
Experience working in a school setting.
Familiarity with inquiry-based learning and integrating technology into science instruction.
