About Hwang SSam English Academy
The academy has Christian roots so there is a big emphasis on honesty, trust and helping other people. We want to teach our students not only learn English but also about being good people. We like to celebrate important events such as Easter and Thanksgivings with the students. Once a month there is English Bible study and then we all have lunch together before starting the working day.
There are 2 Korean teachers. You will be the only native English teacher. However, everyone speaks English and can communicate with the current English teacher well as they have lived abroad or studied abroad for several years.
The students of the academy range from 1st grade elementary school to 1st grade high school. Most of the students are enthusiastic about studying English. They are well-behaved students who enjoy speaking English and want to get to know the English teacher well. There are around 70 students in the academy so we are looking for someone who is hard-working and prepared to put a lot of effort into their work.
As a native English teacher, it is your responsibility to manage the classroom. Hwang Ssam English Academy has an outline of how to teach each skill (Writing, Listening, Reading, Speaking) but the teacher is free to adapt their own teaching style to the classroom. The teacher has a lot of freedom about which books to use for each class and how they would like to teach it to the students. Monday to Thursday focuses on teaching while Friday focuses on preparing for the next week. On Fridays, the teachers usually make workbooks and update the progress on the books being taught. There is also homework to be completed by each class every time they come to the academy, and it is the responsibility of the English teacher to check the homework and give feedback to the students.
The teacher will be provided a full furnished studio which is a 20-minute walk from the academy. It is very clean and in a safe area. There is a convenience store, café and hairdressers below the building which is very convenient.
The academy is located in Seosan City which has a population of about 170,000 people and is 1.5 hours away from Seoul by bus. Since Seosan is near the west coast, there are several beaches you can visit. Please mention that you found the job on Teast for the school's reference.
You need to be from one of the following counties to teach English in South Korea: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa. If you are not from one of those countries, you can still teach English in most other countries. This requirement is specific to South Korea and school's can only issue visa's to teachers from those listed countries.
Due to the high number of applications the schools receive they may not be able to respond to every application. If you don't hear back from them within a week or so, it's best to move on to the next job.
When applying for jobs, you should NEVER have to pay to apply. You should also NEVER have to pay to buy anything which they then pay you back for later. NEVER PAY FOR ANYTHING! Also always verify you're actually talking to the company in the job post and not an imposter. Scams in TEFL are rampant, be careful!
