Windfield International School in Ko Samui, Surat Thani, is seeking a dedicated Secondary Mandarin Teacher. This full-time position offers a salary starting at ฿35,000 per month, with the possibility of negotiation based on experience and qualifications. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Languages and the Secondary School Coordinator.
The primary goal of this role is to provide engaging and rigorous Mandarin language instruction to students in Years 7–11, following the Cambridge Lower Secondary 0771 curriculum and the Cambridge IGCSE 0547 syllabus. The teacher will focus on enhancing students' proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, while also fostering intercultural understanding and preparing students for formal assessments.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Delivering high-quality Mandarin lessons across Years 7–11 using the Cambridge 0771 and IGCSE frameworks.
- Teaching all language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
- Incorporating vocabulary, grammar, and cultural understanding as per the 0771 curriculum.
- Preparing students for the IGCSE Mandarin Foreign Language exam (0547) through practice with past papers and teaching examination techniques.
- Using diverse teaching methods to accommodate various learning styles.
- Integrating language and culture to encourage curiosity and intercultural competence.
- Planning lessons aligned with CEFR levels A1–A2 for Lower Secondary and up to B1–B2 for IGCSE.
- Designing and administering assessments in line with Cambridge standards.
- Tracking and reporting student progress and maintaining records of student achievements.
- Developing and adapting curriculum resources for Cambridge Lower Secondary and IGCSE students.
- Using authentic materials and digital resources to support learning.
- Staying informed about updates to the Cambridge International curriculum frameworks.
- Providing pastoral support and acting as a form tutor if needed.
- Participating in school events, parent-teacher meetings, and Mandarin cultural activities.
- Collaborating with the Modern Foreign Language team and contributing to cross-curricular projects.
- Attending training and staying updated on best practices in language education.
Qualifications and Experience required:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Chinese/Mandarin Language Education or a related field.
- A teaching qualification such as PGCE, QTS, or an equivalent international certification.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience teaching Mandarin at the secondary level, including exam classes.
- Experience with the Cambridge IGCSE Mandarin syllabus is preferred.
Desirable Competencies:
- Familiarity with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
- Ability to integrate technology and digital platforms in teaching.
- Strong organizational and classroom management skills.
- A positive, reflective, and culturally responsive teaching approach.
