RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Studies, Head of Junior School  WORKING CLOSELY WITH: Other teaching staff, in particular teachers of other arts subjects LINE MANAGER: Director of Studies CONTRACT TYPE: Full time, two years, with the possibility of extension subject to performance START DATE: August 2025 PERSONAL SPECIFICATION I.   QUALIFICATION Essential: Minimum Bachelors’ Degree with PGCE / QTS or Bachelor of Education Degree with QTS specialising in Art Desirable: Evidence of a commitment to continuing professional development II.  EXPERIENCE The candidate should have: • Minimum two years’ teaching experience at a UK or international school • Experience preparing students for GCSE and A level Art • Experience of working with children with English as an Additional Language (EAL) III.  KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Essential: The successful candidate should have: • Exceptional understanding of the requirements for GCSE and A Level Art • Practical ability as an artist in a range of media • Good Communication Skills • Good Teamwork and Collaborative Skills • Resilience and a good sense of humour • Fairness, Kindness and Warmth • Interest in wider issues relating to teaching and learning • Active as an artist outside school IV. PROFESSIONAL ATTITUDE AND CONDUCT The successful candidate should have: • Ability to understand, empathise with and enjoy the culture, ethos and values of SPGS International School Chengdu  • Flexibility to learn and adapt to new cultures and situations • A willingness to explore innovative approaches from across the educational field  • The ability to uphold the Code of Conduct of SPGS International Schools  RESPONSIBILITIES Academic: • Teach Art at KS2, KS3, IGCSE and A level • Enhance the quality of teaching and learning in Art and across the wider school through sharing resources and good practice, lesson observation, collaborative teaching, mentoring and active participation in continuing professional development • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children • Support the school’s aims and objectives for teaching and learning • Plan and prepare courses and lessons • Collaborate with colleagues at SPGS London to bring the best of their methods and expertise to SPGS International School Chengdu • Teach, according to their educational need, the students assigned to you • Set and mark work (including internal examinations) to be carried out by the students in school or elsewhere • Monitor and record student progress and achievement as per school policy • Set appropriately challenging targets for students • Ensure students requiring learning support are supported in following their Individual Education Plan and that their needs are being met • Organize assessments and examinations as required • Write reports as required • Strive to foster amongst students, a love of learning and an ongoing thirst for knowledge • Collaborate with other teachers to plan lessons together, share ideas, approaches and professional knowledge • Keep-up-to-date with Department for Education and subject specific developments and contribute curriculum knowledge to the department • Keep up-to-date with wider educational research internationally • Comply with the requirements of the laws and education policies of the UK and the People’s Republic of China GENERAL NOTES • A competitive package is available, with a salary commensurate with the nature and seniority of the post and the experience of the successful candidate.
