Job Title: Teacher of English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Department: English

Function: Academic

Reports to: Head of Primary

Teaching and Learning:

An opportunity for a Primary School English as an Additional Language (EAL) Teacher has opened up due to increased enrollment. This role involves teaching EAL students, offering support, and potentially taking on leadership responsibilities as the team expands.

The ideal candidate will:

- Show a dedication to teaching and learning

- Have experience teaching EAL students in primary and middle school settings

- Possess strong pastoral skills to support students new to the English language

- Be capable of delivering effective 1-1 and small group sessions for EAL students

- Set, support, and monitor progress through individual language plans and school tracking software

- Provide training for class teachers to support EAL students in all curriculum areas

- Hold a CELTA, TEFL, or TESOL teaching certificate or equivalent

Job Purpose:

- Ensure well-planned, structured, and engaging lessons

- Tailor lessons to accommodate all learning needs

- Provide timely and meaningful feedback

- Reflect on teaching practices to address student needs, including those related to SEN and EAL pupil experience

- Maintain a safe and disciplined learning environment

- Record and report on pupil progress and attainment

- Demonstrate outstanding subject and curriculum knowledge

- Establish strong relationships with students and parents

- Contribute to meetings and school policies

- Take responsibility for students' welfare, progress, and attainment

Professional Knowledge and Understanding:

- Stay updated with the English national curriculum

- Promote British values within the curriculum and school ethos

- Understand students' learning development

- Utilize ICT skills effectively

- Establish effective relationships with colleagues and parents

- Engage in professional development

- Ensure health and safety standards are met

Assessment and Reporting:

- Systematically assess and report student progress

- Monitor classwork and homework adherence

- Utilize data to set targets and monitor progress

- Offer regular feedback to aid student progress

- Provide reports to leaders and parents as needed

Professional Development:

- Engage in school training for improvement

- Assess teaching against global education trends

- Seek CPD opportunities for personal development

Additional Responsibilities:

- Contribute to school projects

- Offer extracurricular activities

- Accompany students on trips

- Ensure students' safeguarding and welfare
