Victoria University (VU) is an Australian university based in Melbourne, delivering English for Academic Purposes (EAP) programs with partner universities in China. The programs prepare students for university study in English.
We are seeking English language teachers for first-year and second-year EAP programs in China for the 2026–2027 academic year. Contracts cover two semesters: September–December 2026 and March–June 2027.
First-year students typically enter at approximately IELTS 4.5 and exit at IELTS 5.0. Second-year students generally enter at IELTS 5.0 and exit at IELTS 5.5.
Liaoning University – Shenyang
• First-year university students • Up to 18 teaching hours per week • $1,250 AUD per week (paid in RMB, before tax) • 10 days hotel accommodation on arrival, then 2,200 RMB/month housing allowance • 10% semester bonus paid in RMB
Henan University – Zhengzhou
• First- and second-year university students • Up to 18 teaching hours per week • 4,700 RMB per week (after tax) • One-bedroom apartment provided during teaching semesters • $2,000 AUD end-of-semester payment
Please note that these are semester-based contracts and there is no salary paid between semesters.
China has strict work permit requirements for English language teachers. Applicants must meet both university and Chinese government visa requirements.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must: • Be under 60 years of age for the full duration of the contract • Hold a bachelor’s degree from an English-medium university • Hold a recognised TESOL qualification (minimum 120-hour TEFL/TESOL/CELTA or equivalent) • Have at least two years of documented English language teaching experience • Be able to provide a recommendation reference from a previous employer • Hold citizenship from Australia, the UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, the USA,
or Canada • Be able to obtain a clear criminal record check
Please note: teachers pay for their airfares and visa costs, which are reimbursed at the end of the semester.

📌 You need to be from one of the following counties to teach English in China: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa. However, schools in China can still hire teachers from other countries as subject teachers or teaching assistants and managers.
