Assistant Professor of EFL at Woosong University in Daejeon, South Korea
Woosong University is seeking applicants to fill positions as non-tenure track, full-time assistant professors of EFL. These are one-year appointments that are renewable based on your performance and the university’s needs. We are accepting applications on a rolling basis.
Starting Salary
2,700,000 to 3,500,000 Korean Won per month.
Who are we looking for?
Candidates who have:
at least a master’s degree and 24 months of verifiable, full-time university teaching experience, or
A doctoral degree, with experience taken into account but not required.
We prefer candidates who have degrees in education, English, TEFL, or linguistics.
Teaching experience at the primary- or secondary-school level is also acceptable, as long as it required a government-issued teaching license.
What is the job?
You’ll be teaching in the General English Language (GEL) program at Woosong. That means:
Teaching first- and second- year classes in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, as well as elective courses and advanced English skills classes in our Global Business Communication Skills (GBCS) program;
Other teaching opportunities, depending upon your qualifications, include:
Self-understanding and exploring majors
Computer system applications
Principles of management
Presentation skills and strategies
There are administrative opportunities as well, such as:

Translation and/or proofreading

If you are bilingual (Korean and English), and can translate and interpret, there may be special administrative opportunities for you.
We have a conversation lab and tutoring center, as well as student clubs, academic committees, and other activities, such as professional development. With around 100 EFL faculty members, there are many opportunities to be involved in campus life. Our professors teach up to 20 hours per week and are required to keep office hours from 9:00 am - 6:00 pm, Monday-Friday.
What are the benefits?
In addition to your salary, you will receive:
A pay raise every two years, which is based on your job performance. New teachers are eligible for a raise after completing two years of employment. Annual performance-based bonuses may also be available. These are both based on your annual performance evaluation (APE) score.
Six weeks of paid vacation each year.
Basic health insurance through the national health insurance plan
Membership in the private Korea Teachers Pension (monthly contribution: approximately 9% of your salary).
We also have a mentoring and orientation program for all incoming professors.
Housing
Instructors will rent Woosong-owned housing upon availability on a year-by-year basis.
