KENTECH (Korea Institute of Energy Technology) English Faculty Position Opening from Fall Semester 2024

KENTECH seeks a qualified and highly motivated full-time non-tenure-track faculty of English education to begin June 26, 2024. KENTECH is a new research university established to become a leader in overcoming the global climate change crisis. Founded under the KENTECH Act on March 25, 2021, KENTECH receives ongoing support from the South Korean Government, KEPCO, Jeollanam-do, and Naju-si.

KENTECH is eager to transform university education by focusing on learner-centered, inquiry-based, and project-driven education rather than on conventional knowledge-transfer, lecture-driven methods. To this end, KENTECH admits a small but select number of high school graduates and supports them by providing a low student-to-faculty ratio and an environment that is ideally suited to learning.

Because KENTECH employs an English-medium instruction policy, the KENTECH ESP (English for Specific/Scientific Purposes) program has been created as a core area of our curriculum. KENTECH ESP is designed to enhance the ability of engineering students from diverse backgrounds to write and speak in English for academic/scientific purposes. The program will be organized around four different levels of English to help students acquire the skills and knowledge essential for English-language communication in the necessary settings.

(1) Requirements and qualifications
• Minimum one year of teaching experience at the university level.
• Experience teaching science and engineering journal paper writing.
• Experience editing science and engineering journal papers.
• PhD preferred; Master’s required.

(2) Main duties and responsibilities
• Teaching 22 hours per week during the regular semesters (Spring and Fall) and 20 hours per week during the summer and winter sessions.
• For a regular semester, six regular courses should be taught. A 16-week-long regular course is composed of 3 hours of lecture per week.
• For the summer (six-week) and winter (six-week) sessions, two regular courses should be taught. A 6-week-long regular course is composed of 8 hours of teaching per week(two hours a day, four days a week).
• The remaining teaching hours may be covered by tutoring, bridge, RC-ESP, or short clinic sessions, which should be pre-apporved before the beginning of the corresponding semester or session.
• Teaching both our graduate and undergraduate English programs, as well as participating in the intellectual and creative work of the university and in further developing the KENTECH ESP program.

(3) Salary and benefits  
• The total annual salary will be 63,600,000 won(with a week duty of 22 hours during the regular semesters and 20 hours during the summer and winter semesters. The duty includes English clinic services [e.g., speaking, writing, editing, etc.] for staff, faculty, and students). 
• On campus, you will be given an office (shared with other instructors), a phone, and a computer.
• We also provide social insurances (national pension, national health insurance, employment insurance, long-term care).

(4) Contract Conditions
• The contract is annual and runs August 1, 2024 to July 31, 2025 for the first year. (The schedule is subject to change based on the hiring process.)
• To a qualified instructor, KENTECH offers a contract renewal based on evaluations from the first year.
