Job Overview:
The Teacher of Early Years will instruct children (normally up to 6 years of age) in activities designed to encourage creativity, foster academic growth, and nurture young learners. The Teacher of Early Years is responsible for delivering the curriculum following a Montessori inspired approach to teaching and learning.
Responsibilities and Duties:
• Design, propose and follow the approved curriculum and teaching plans using a variety of activities and instructional methods (songs, stories, media, structured games, art, outdoor activities etc) to motivate and stimulate students’ abilities.
• Promote practical first-hand experiences and other educationally appropriate activities for individual and group learning.
• Provide an organised, disciplined and stimulating environment in the classroom.
• Monitor students’ interactions and nurture cooperation and sharing.
• Propose ideas for, and take part in, organizing indoor and outdoor activities for early year students.
• Effectively handle daily communications with parents through the schools’ official communication channels, including Class Dojo, ISAMs, and in direct meetings.
• Identify students’ signs of emotional, developmental, or health-related problems, and discuss such signs with the SEN and Pastoral Coordinator, Head of Early Years, parents or guardians, and child development specialists.
• Make written and/or oral assessments and evaluations of individual students and of the class as a whole – presenting these to the Head of Early Years and parents as appropriate - meeting specified deadlines when required.
• Select, store, order, issue, and inventory classroom equipment, materials, and supplies.
• Be responsible for supervision duty of playgrounds, lunch, snack, nap time and other duties as assigned.
• Substitute for absent colleagues when necessary.
• Take part in, and deliver, CPD courses throughout the school year.
• Plan and run assemblies in line with the school’s core values.
• Contribute to the ongoing review and development of the Early Years curriculum.
• Actively support whole school accreditation processes.
• Undertake any other reasonable task or duty as assigned by the Head of Early Years or Head of School.
Qualifications:
A recognized teaching qualification and a Bachelor’s degree in Early Years Education, or equivalent, is preferred.
Experience:
At least three years teaching experience with previous experience in an international/bilingual school setting preferred.
