This position is dedicated to teaching Humanities in the Middle School, alongside supporting Geography instruction within the Secondary School program. The role is crucial in applying the school’s Future Focused learning philosophy within the Middle School curriculum. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of Geography in the Secondary pathway, fostering interdisciplinary learning and global awareness among students.
Responsibilities include leading Humanities instruction for Middle School students and teaching Geography at both IGCSE and A Level. The teacher will guide students to understand the connections between people, places, environments, and global systems, and will encourage them to apply their geographical knowledge to contemporary global concerns.
A key aspect of this role is to inspire curiosity and provide meaningful learning experiences. The teacher will help students understand the content and the purpose behind their learning, monitor academic progress, and support personal development. As a Form Tutor, the teacher will mentor a group of students, fostering their wellbeing and personal growth and building strong relationships.
The role also involves active participation in the school community, including supporting co-curricular programs, educational trips, residential visits, and outreach initiatives. Teachers will incorporate experiential learning, project-based learning, and design thinking into their lessons, aligning with Astra’s educational frameworks.
The curriculum in Middle School Humanities will focus on building critical thinking skills, global awareness, and understanding human and environmental systems. Geography instruction at IGCSE and A Level will develop strong analytical abilities and research skills. Lessons will be designed to encourage collaboration, independent thinking, and active engagement.
The teacher will create a classroom atmosphere that values curiosity, discussion, and teamwork, empowering students to take responsibility for their learning and actively engage in the classroom community. Assessment methods will include both formative and summative practices to support student reflection and improvement, preparing them thoroughly for examinations.
Beyond academics, the teacher will play a significant role in students' personal and social development, promoting respect, responsibility, and positive learning habits, while maintaining strong communication with parents.
