Job Description:

Hello everyone. I've spent my last 5 years in South Korea as an English teacher, but I’ll be finishing my contract in June and I'm looking for my replacement.

This job includes full classroom autonomy of small classes of two to 12 students. The job hours are from 2-8 p.m. at the latest—the final classes of the day are often cancelled depending on students’ schedules, so I usually finish by 7. You’ll also never be required to work in the mornings or on weekends.

The director is incredibly friendly and very open to new ideas and suggestions, and the students are so much fun. Because it’s a private English academy, I’ve found that students are overall a bit more diligent compared to public school.

Housing is also provided (2 bedrooms 1 bath, furnished, AC, underfloor heating) and is in a great location of town. It’s a 10 minute walk to work, grocery stores, cafes, library, gym, restaurants, small hiking areas, and just a 20 minute walk to the beach.

Seoraksan National Park is just 20 minute bus/taxi ride away and is full of some of the most beautiful mountains for hiking.

There is also a small but wonderful community of other English teachers and regular monthly community events.

The academy is ideally looking for an American female teacher (as the American accent is used for most of the standardized tests), but others will be considered if qualifications are met.

Academy Name: A.P. English

Location: Sokcho-si, Gangwon-do, South Korea (mountains, beaches, a 3 hour bus ride to/from Seoul)

Grades: Elementary, Middle, and High school students (high school students are usually only 2 or 3 times a week)

Hours: Monday - Friday 2pm-8pm (at the latest)

Salary: 2 million won/month

Provided: housing, health insurance, flights, pension

Vacation: 5 days summer/5 days winter plus all national holidays

Visa: the academy will sponsor an E-2 Visa

Start date: By or before June 21st

Knowledge of Korean is not required but definitely helpful for life around town. Most English teachers do just fine with a basic level of Korean that they learn after arriving.

You need to be from one of the following counties to teach English in South Korea: USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa. If you are not from one of those countries, you can still teach English in most other countries. This requirement is specific to South Korea and school's can only issue visa's to teachers from those listed countries.

Due to the high number of applications the schools receive they may not be able to respond to every application. If you don't hear back from them within a week or so, it's best to move on to the next job.

When applying for jobs, you should NEVER have to pay to apply. You should also NEVER have to pay to buy anything which they then pay you back for later. NEVER PAY FOR ANYTHING! Also always verify you're actually talking to the company in the job post and not an imposter. Scams in TEFL are rampant, be careful!
