What We Teach 

Kindergarten 

Kindergarten at Avenues is a laboratory of joy, discovery, and exploration. Children learn primarily through play, and our role as educators is to help foster a love of learning that young children will carry with them as they move upwards through school. Collaboration is woven into everything we do. Teams of English and Chinese teachers share two classes of students, collaborating to nurture their students’ social, emotional and academic growth. Teacher teams share responsibility for the curriculum and plan together daily. This intense collaboration is challenging as well as exciting: we’re always evolving, learning from each other and seeking to improve.  In Kindergarten, we also offer Music, Art, Science, Movement & Wellness and Library classes to our young leaners.

Primary Division 

Our Primary Division provides a transformative academic program to engage young minds and promote creative thinking–in two languages. During grades 1-5, students cultivate independent thinking and deepen their understanding of what it means to be a member of a community, through a curricular emphasis on: language immersion in Mandarin and English; inquiry-oriented learning, from the self to the world; and interdisciplinary, creativity-enhancing projects.  Teams of English and Chinese teachers share two classes of students, collaborating to nurture their students’ social, emotional and academic growth. In Primary, we also offer Math, Visural Art, Music, Movement & Wellness and Libary classes.

Secondary Division 

The Middle and Upper Grades are where our ambitious goals for Avenues graduates, defined in our mission statement, are most comprehensively realized. While in grades 6-12, we prepare students for a globally connected, innovation-driven, and largely unknown future. Our students will be: accomplished in all the academic skills you would expect, at ease beyond their borders, and confident because they excel in a particular passion.  Students will learn through project based, interdisplinary, inquiry-based, mastery projects to deepen their learning and also understand personal passion. We offer Humanity, Science, Music, Art, Literacy learnings to our students.
