University EFL/ESL Instructor Positions Now Open in Beautiful Chuncheon, South Korea!

Kangwon National University (Chuncheon Campus) invites applications for Invited Professor positions to join our faculty in beautiful Chuncheon, South Korea.  KNU has been providing quality educational experiences to students, both Korean and international, for over 70 years. We are proud to serve as one of the 10 Flagship Korean National Universities, representing Gangwon province.

Period of Employment

September 1st 2023 to August 31st 2024 (1year, renewable upon mutual agreement)

Position Description

Invited Professors at KNU work out of the Office of International Affairs, primarily teaching English communication classes to college-level students. The position also requires teaching non-credit conversation classes through the Division of Language Education. There may be opportunities to teach content and other English-language classes (subject to availability and demand).

Pay Range: We offer a salary of 2,100,000-3,000,000 Korean won, commensurate with educational qualifications and experience. There is also the possibility of overtime work, at the following rates: 25,000 / hour in-session; 20,000 / hour during vacation.

Benefits:

8 weeks vacation (usually 4 weeks in both summer and winter)

University-provided housing or

Housing stipend of 400,000 Korean won (the latter available only to residents of Chuncheon)

Severance pay (available to employees who work for KNU for longer than 1 year)

Responsibilities

Teaching 18 hours per week, primarily of the following two courses each 15-week semester:

Communication English: 3 course hours/week, mostly freshman, various majors, with a focus on speaking / listening skills, as well as presentation and critical thinking. Considerable flexibility in choice of textbook and methodology.

Non-credit Conversation classes: 4 hours / week, early mornings or early evenings, open to all members of the community. Levels range primarily from false beginner / elementary to upper-intermediate / advanced (CEFR A1/2 through C1; ACTFL Novice mid/high through Advanced Mid-high). Complete flexibility in choice of textbook and methodology.

Additional Classes (occasional): 1:1 conversation classes, off-campus work in outside programs / educational institutes.

Position Requirements

▶ Passport holder from the US, Canada, Australia, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, or the U.K.

▶ B.A. or M.A. degree holder (M.A. preferred)

▶ At least 4 years of teaching experience at a university in korea or equivalent

▶ 120 Hour TEFL Certificate holder (or equivalent) for B.A. holders

▶ E-2 or E-1 visa holder or applicant with all necessary visa application documents prepared.
