Teacher of IGCSE Global Perspectives - Shenzhen
Shenzhen College of International Education (SCIE) is looking for an experienced Teacher of Global Perspectives (IGCSE) for a full-time position starting in August 2026. The ideal candidate will join our Humanities and Social Sciences department and will have the ability to also teach IGCSE History or Geography. This role involves teaching highly motivated and academically strong students who are preparing for top universities globally, with a teaching load of approximately 50%.
SCIE is a prestigious UK-curriculum high school in Shenzhen, China, offering Cambridge International IGCSE, AS/A Level, and an AP stream. Our school is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and WASC, and is a member of FOBISIA and EARCOS. Teaching is conducted in English for mainly Chinese students aiming for overseas university placements.

Main Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging IGCSE Global Perspectives lessons using a variety of learning activities and resources, aligned with the department’s Scheme of Work.
- Create and conduct assessments according to departmental standards, providing constructive feedback and identifying areas for student improvement.
- Differentiate instruction to effectively engage high-achieving students.
- Collaborate with Humanities and Social Sciences colleagues, contribute to curriculum development, and potentially teach IGCSE History or Geography.
- Participate in RPQ and Gifted and Talented programs, extra-curricular activities, and pastoral care.
The students at SCIE are highly motivated with strong English and Mathematics skills. They typically achieve outstanding exam results and receive offers from prestigious universities globally, including Oxbridge and top US institutions. Maximum class sizes are 26 for IGCSE and 24 for AS/A Level.
Work Schedule:
- Monday–Friday, 07:50–16:40 (07:30 start on Mondays, early finish at 15:00 on Fridays).
- Normal contact teaching time: 24 x 40-minute periods per week.
- Personal time: 6 fixed periods per week when not required on campus.
- Extra-curricular activity: 1 hour per week after school.
- Extensive CPD opportunities and substantial holiday periods.
Pastoral Responsibilities:
- Serve as a form tutor, hold mentoring meetings, run form time sessions, teach a weekly PSHE lesson, and support students' academic and personal well-being.
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of teaching experience in AL/IGCSE/AP.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject and a recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS).
- Strong subject knowledge in Global Perspectives; ability to teach History or Geography is desirable.
- Experience with Cambridge IGCSE and AS/A Level or equivalent curricula is advantageous.
- Ability to work collaboratively, contribute to extra-curricular activities, and pastoral care.
